Shower drains...a prettier topic than you imagine!

When we are our imagining our dream showers, we often get excited about what tile we will use, the color of the plumbing finishes, the cabinetry colors, etc; but we often skip the most vital part that needs to be designed, the shower drain. Without a shower drain, we would just have a non-functional and flooded room. With the need of aesthetic drains rising, Infinity Drain meets the market demand with their various options.

I have dreamt of remodeling my personal bathroom for ages and when it came time to finally update, I knew I wanted a drain that blended seamlessly with my flooring. Infinity drain offers a tiled in drain option that looks great and is extremely functional. For almost all my client projects, I use infinity drain so this is a tried and true product in my design process. I've included some project samples where I have used their tiled in linear drain, their 4x4" metal decorative drain, and their square decorative drain.

So when it came time to my own shower, I knew that it was a must in the overall design aesthetic. I chose the 5x5" tiled in square drain as I had a pretty narrow width (only 36" wide). My tile installer was able to seamlessly install our floor tiles, a 2x12" honed marble on mesh, directly onto the decorative plate of the drain system.

Below you can see the drain blending in beautifully on the shower floor. The details of the drain are remarkable as the plated finish around the tile insert was in satin bronze to match my Brizo plumbing perfectly.

I personally really love the look of the tiled in feature versus a metal drain grate. I feel that it allows your eye to naturally flow to other decorative elements in the room. After all, good design is all about function and form!

A common question that clients ask is how to clean and maintain the drain. Infinity drain has an exclusive Hair Maintenance Kit that comes in a zippered pouch with a lift-out key and hair catching basket for easy maintenance. My husband and I have been using the shower daily for a few weeks now and the hair basket is a life saver! It really catches everything and avoids the dreaded drain back up over time! I would suggest cleaning the basket about once a week and it takes about 30 seconds to do!

Simply slide the key into the top plate, lift, and remove the basket! I do a quick wipe down with a paper towel and that is all it takes. Aside from form and function...ease of use is always extremely high on my design priorities list!
